HIGH LIFE : School Puts Students On-Line With Future
“We Are the Future.”
That’s the motto at Century High School, the first California high school to completely integrate computers and high technology into every aspect of the curriculum.
And 1,115 students caught their first glimpses at that future Sept. 5, when Orange County’s newest high school opened its doors.
Named Century High to mark the first 100 years of the Santa Ana Unified School District, the school is part of a plan to alleviate severe crowding in the school district, the county’s largest and the state’s ninth-largest.
Century, at 1401 S. Grand Ave., greeted 1,115 ninth- and 10th-graders, drawing from both Santa Ana and Saddleback high schools.
In addition to standard subjects, the new school offers an array of high-tech courses, including medical services and electronics.
Century’s labs are outfitted with 200 Apple Macintosh personal computers, 20 IBM personal computers and a Digital Equipment Corp. Micro VAX mainframe that will be connected to every area of the school.
