GARDENING

For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen:

* Take cuttings from your best geraniums for colorful indoor plants. Cuttings will take root best if you let them dry one day before planting in a sand/peat moss mix.

* Daffodil, tulip, crocus and other bulbs are beginning to show up in nurseries. Plant them in the ground or in pots for portable color come spring.

* When planting bulbs, be generous with the bonemeal and place it where the roots can get at it; your flowers will be more spectacular.

* Dig up faded gladiolus as the tops turn yellow. Cut off the tops about an inch or less above the corm (bulb). Dust the corms with insecticide before storing them in a cool place for replanting next year.

* Roses in most areas of California still have one more fling to come; feed and deeply water them now. Watch for mildew, which can be a problem.
