Mussorgsky and Stravinsky by Guillou

MUSSORGSKY: “Pictures at an Exhibition”; STRAVINSKY: Three Dances from “Petrushka.” Jean Guillou, organ. Dorian Recordings DOR-90117(compact disc). Despite the nimbleness of Guillou’s technique and the imagination of his arrangements, musically this disc remains little more than a quixotic stunt. It does make a stunning audio demonstration, however, presenting the power, clarity and versatility of the new Kleuker-Steinmeyer organ in the Zurich Tonhalle in its first commercially released recording.
