Datron Systems in Simi Valley said its Trans World Communications unit received orders valued at $5.8 million to provide radio communications systems to a European country that was not identified.

Trans World specializes in “high frequency” radio equipment, which is often portable and enables soldiers and others to communicate over the horizon without using wires or satellites. In its current fiscal quarter ending Sept. 30, Datron said Trans World has received new orders totaling more than $12 million.

Datron, which also makes satellite antennas and other products, said its overall order backlog at the quarter’s end should be nearly $40 million. Datron’s total sales in its fiscal year that ended March 31 were $37 million.
