Man Arrested in Anti-China Protest
A demonstrator protesting human rights violations in the People’s Republic of China was arrested over the weekend outside a Chinatown restaurant in Los Angeles where 600 people were celebrating the nation’s 40th anniversary of Communist rule.
Chich Jen Tung, 52, of Monterey Park, was booked for investigation of misdemeanor interference with a police officer after the disturbance Sunday outside the Golden Palace restaurant, officials said.
“He is from a group that is more strident and we were unable to control him,” said Ting Huan, a spokesman for the coalition of community groups that staged the event.
Hundreds of pro-democracy student protesters were killed or wounded in Beijing this summer when the Chinese military staged a violent crackdown.
