From Times wire services

The launch of the world’s biggest commercial satellite has been delayed for four weeks after an electrical fault was discovered in the West European Ariane-4 rocket launcher, company officials said today.

The 4.2-ton Intelsat V1 satellite had been scheduled to be launched on Oct. 5. But Arianespace, the Paris-based company that markets and builds the rocket, said a fault was discovered in electronics systems for the rocket which are built in France.

The launch had been delayed to check the systems on the rocket waiting on the launch pad at Kourou, French Guiana.
