Attorney, Trade Expert Harold S. Voegelin Dies

Harold S. Voegelin, an attorney and international trade expert, died at his Newport Beach home last Sunday at the age of 70, his family announced Friday.

Services and burial were private. A memorial service will be held Oct. 9 at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club.

A native of Summit, N.J., Voegelin was a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School and the Harvard Business School in 1943, where he was No. 1 in his class.

He served in the U. S. Navy in World War II, retiring as a lieutenant commander.

Voegelin, who had homes in Los Angeles and Newport Beach, was board chairman and chief executive officer of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce in 1983. He was president of the Los Angeles International Trade Development Corp. and had served on numerous international trade advisory boards and commissions. He was a member of the law firm of Nossaman, Guthner, Knox and Elliott.

Voegelin was a trustee of Whittier College and was active in several philanthropic organizations. He was a board member of the South Coast Child Guidance Clinic, the Orange County Business Committee for the Arts, the United Cerebral Palsy Assn. and several other organizations.

Survivors include his wife, Winifred; a son, Frederic Peter; a stepson, Jon Frederic Martin; a stepdaughter, Janis Lyn Kingaard, and a foster child, Mary Anne Green.
