Businesses Given Tax Deadline: More than 32,000 businesses that apparently are doing business in California but have not filed with the Franchise Tax Board will be given 25 days to file corporate income tax returns or face stiff penalties. The board said it electronically scanned records of the Internal Revenue Service, the state Board of Equalization, the state Employment Development Department and county tax rolls to compile a list of companies apparently doing business in California that had not filed state returns. The Franchise Tax Board said it will issue tax assessments for a minimum of $1,200, in addition to 50% penalties and interest, on corporations that do not respond to the notices within 25 days.
