Prices Paid to Farmers Fall: The Agriculture Department said prices that farmers received for their goods fell by nearly 1% in September--the fourth month in a row of declining agricultural prices. However, the price of milk, which increased for the fourth consecutive month to $1.37 a pound, is now at its highest level since 1985. The index of prices received by U.S. farmers dropped 0.7% in September and was 0.7% below a year ago. Lower prices for cattle, hogs, potatoes and tomatoes were partially offset by higher prices for oranges, milk, lettuce and apples, the department said.
