WORLD : Labor Party Scraps A-Arms Stance

BRIGHTON, England —
Britain’s opposition Labor Party today scrapped its longstanding commitment to unilateral nuclear disarmament, handing leader Neil Kinnock a key victory in his drive to steer the party on a new moderate course.
A revised defense strategy which abandons a unilateral approach and commits Labor to joining global disarmament talks was approved by a 3-2 margin on the second day of the party’s weeklong annual conference.
