Former Eagles Henley and Frey Team Again at Amphitheatre
Ex-Eagles Don Henley and Glenn Frey teamed up over the weekend for the first time since the band broke up in 1981. They joined voices for “Hotel California” and “Life in the Fast Lane” during two of the final concerts of Henley’s eight-week U.S. tour Friday night at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles and Sunday at the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa.
Midway through the show in Costa Mesa (the tour’s last stop), Henley addressed fans’ continuing requests for an Eagles reunion: “People are always asking ‘Are you guys ever going to get back together?’ I don’t know, but here’s the next best thing--my good friend, Glenn Frey.”
For the two Eagles hits, Henley put down his guitar and resumed his old spot behind the drums, while Frey strummed guitar and contributed harmony vocals. Then, as Frey walked off the Pacific Amphitheatre stage, Henley quipped: “Accept no substitutes.”
Frey’s manager, Larry Fitzgerald, said the two had not performed together since the Eagles disbanded.
