Saddleback Hospital and Health Center in Laguna Hills has received the largest single gift in its 15-year history: an $850,000 donation from the estate of Elsie and Cuthbert DePledge of Leisure World. Hospital spokesman Orman Day said the money will become part of a $20-million capital campaign that the hospital expects to begin next year. “The gift came as a complete surprise to the medical center,” Day said, although he said the DePledges had made annual gifts to the hospital since 1972. Elsie DePledge died in 1987, and Cuthbert, a former banker, died in March.
