From United Press International
GENEVA —
The number of AIDS cases reported worldwide rose by 4,498 or about 2.5% in September to reach 182,463 as of Oct. 1, the World Health Organization said Tuesday.
The United States accounted for 75% of the increase with 3,325 additional cases for a total 104,210, or 57.1% of the world total.
But WHO officials emphasized that the United States was, as usual, among the few countries to send updated figures to the U.N. health agency’s department for acquired immune deficiency syndrome.
