Library Users Should Speak Out

Share

September 5 was the first day of the school year. It was also the first day of the new, unimproved library hours at the Camarillo Library.

While lack of funds has been cited as the reason that our library hours are so abbreviated, I believe that some creative management can provide appropriate library services to the community.

The hours that the library is open must be geared to the hours which students and working people require. The staffing should be the minimum needed to keep the library open. Volunteers must be recruited to act as library aides.

In the past I have been forced to travel to the Foster Library in Ventura or the Thousand Oaks Library when the Camarillo library is closed. I encountered inadequate parking and long lines at the copying machines and checkout counters.

It is time for the library-using public to speak out. Please send your comments to Dixie Adeniran, director of library services, 4274 Telegraph, Ventura 93003 and Supervisor Maggie Erickson, 800 S. Victoria, Room 402, Ventura 93009.
