19 File for Rewards in Stalker’s Arrest

Share

Nineteen people who say they helped capture convicted Night Stalker serial killer Richard Ramirez have put in claims for $80,000 in reward money offered before his capture in 1985 by an angry East Los Angeles crowd.

Five agencies were reviewing applications for the rewards, which were contingent on Ramirez’s conviction. He was convicted Sept. 20 of 13 murders and Wednesday a jury recommended death in the gas chamber.

“We’re hoping to put some recommendation on the county’s table later this month,” said Georgette Dewyer, deputy executive officer with the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

Dewyer’s four-member panel will review the applications after the Sheriff’s Department makes recommendations and then will submit its decision to the supervisors.

The reward was offered by the county and the cities of Los Angeles, Arcadia and San Francisco, and the governor’s office.
