NATION : Bakker Closing Down TV Ministry
Jim Bakker climbed into his sky blue Ford sedan today and headed back to Florida to close down his television ministry and get ready for what could be a lifetime partnership in a federal penitentiary.
Bakker, 49, was convicted Thursday of 24 counts of criminal fraud and conspiracy in the sale of so-called lifetime partnerships at PTL. He faces up to 120 years in prison when he is sentenced Oct. 24.
Bakker’s wife, Tammy Faye, had said Thursday that the television ministry would continue but defense attorney George Davis said the couple decided to close down their daily “Jim and Tammy Show” to concentrate on an appeal.
