Officer Spots Own Camper--in Traffic

A California Highway Patrol officer whose camper was stolen off the back of his pickup truck rediscovered it last week--rolling down the Hollywood Freeway in Studio City on the back of another man’s truck.

Officer Ben Moya sighted the pickup and his camper in the freeway’s northbound lanes near Barham Boulevard one evening last week, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Dave Grajeda.

After pulling the truck over, Moya inspected the blue camper shell more closely and confirmed that it was his.

He called Los Angeles police, and the driver of the truck, Ramon Huiza, 20, was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property. He was later released on $5,000 bail.

Huiza told authorities that he had bought the camper from someone else, Grajeda said.
