The Rev. William M. Baltau; Missionary to China
The Rev. William M. Baltau, 79, a missionary in China for 22 years and retired Lockheed liaison representative. The longtime Sunland resident went to China with his missionary parents at age 8 and attended school there, graduating from Ching Hua University in Beijing with a master’s degree in Chinese literature. He established and directed Bethany School of Tientsin, China, one of the first low-cost elementary and high schools in that country. During the Sino-Japanese War, he organized and directed rescue operations. After his return from China in 1940 and before moving to Burbank, he served as pastor of Assemblies of God churches in Saxton and Middletown, Pa. He started a church in Frazier Park. He retired from Lockheed in 1970. In Montrose on Sunday.
