BACKGROUND
When the Supreme Court decided how water from the Colorado River would be divided in 1963, it ordered California, Arizona and Nevada to set aside water for Indian tribes living along the river. Recently the U.S. government declared that the tribes are entitled to more water than they now are receiving--enough to meet the annual needs of 500,000 people in Los Angeles.
