ANOTHER PRIZE?: With Nobel prizes in the news, some people were betting that a UC Irvine chemist might be the next recipient. Prof. F. Sherwood Rowland stunned the world in 1974 when he and colleague Mario Molina announced that man-made chemicals were destroying the Earth’s ozone layer. . . . Rowland has been recommended for the Nobel chemistry prize at least twice and clearly deserves it, UCI dean Harold Moore said. “But there’s also politics involved” in the final selection--expected Thursday.
