Ford to Shut Plant for 3 Months: Production at Ford Motor Co.’s Wayne, Mich., assembly plant will stop for about three months to retool the factory for the next generation of Escort subcompact cars, the company said. The United Auto Workers union said it anticipates fewer than 100 layoffs because of the changeover. The Wayne assembly plant, west of Detroit, Ford’s principal source for the Escort, will stop production Nov. 22 and resume in late February or early March, Ford spokesman Joel Pitcoff said. The 3,300 hourly workers at the Wayne plant will be retrained on the new production processes.
