WORLD IN BRIEF - LEBANON - Swissair Attendant Freed by Kidnapers

Share

A Swiss airline flight attendant seized in Lebanon while on a three-month vacation has been released after being held captive for five days, Swissair said in Zurich, Switzerland. In Beirut, a diplomatic source said the seizure of Astrid Fischer, 31, resulted from a dispute between two rival boyfriends, one of whom ordered her abduction. The diplomat said she has been asked to leave Lebanon and not return. A Swissair spokesman said: “I can only confirm she is free.” Fischer was seized by unidentified gunmen near the northern port of Tripoli on Sunday. Swiss government sources said her case was not connected to that of Swiss Red Cross workers Emmanuel Christen and Elio Erriquez, kidnaped in southern Lebanon eight days ago.
