Bangladesh Shantytown Fire Kills 8; 1,000 Homeless

DHAKA, Bangladesh —
Fire swept through a shantytown Friday, killing eight people, destroying 200 houses and leaving 1,000 people homeless, officials said. Authorities blamed arsonists.
Witnesses said the blaze was started by students from a nearby college who poured gasoline on the mud-and-straw huts.
