IN BRIEF : ISRAEL : Defector’s MIG Is Bonanza for West

The Syrian MIG-23 fighter jet flown to Israel last week by a pilot who defected contains advanced Soviet-designed equipment never before examined by the West, a military official said. Reserve Brig. Gen. Oded Erez told Israel Radio the plane contains advanced radar, avionics and weapons systems. Syria, meanwhile, confirmed that the MIG’s pilot had defected and branded him “an abominable traitor.”
