NCNB Expects to Bid on More Texas Thrifts: North Carolina-based banking firm NCNB Corp. plans to bid on more failed Texas thrifts even after acquiring the largest, $3.5-billion University Federal Savings Assn, in a federally assisted buyout, company officials said. “We plan to be an active player in the process,” Ken Lewis, president of NCNB Texas, told reporters at a press conference in Houston. Last year, NCNB purchased First RepublicBank Corp. in a $4-billion federally assisted bailout.
