Cold Snap Cuts Citrus Crop Estimates: A cold snap that damaged tender orange and grapefruit blooms last winter in Florida may set back the citrus industry’s recovery from tree-killing freezes in the mid 1980s, agriculture officials said. State forecasters estimated that Florida will harvest 130 million boxes of oranges and 44 million boxes of grapefruit this season. It would be the smallest orange crop in three years and the smallest grapefruit crop in five years. The drop is attributed to a three-day dip in temperatures that hurt blooms last February but did not damage fruit on the trees.
