From Times wire services

General Electric Co. said today it will eliminate about 450 jobs over the next three years in the home laundry manufacturing operations at its major appliance facility here.

GE said it will shift some of the manufacturing work to subcontractors in an effort to cut costs. The affected jobs will be eliminated through attrition, including retirements and resignations, it added.

The home laundry assembly operation currently employs 2,755 hourly and salaried workers out of 12,800 at the Louisville complex. At its peak in 1973, GE’s Appliance Park employed more than 23,000.
