WORLD IN BRIEF : BRITAIN : 4 Jailed in Bombings Expected to BeFreed
Three Irishmen and a British woman jailed since 1974 could be released this week after a top British law officer declared that the four were unjustly convicted for bombings in which five people died. The so-called Guildford Four are serving life sentences for the bombing of two pubs in southern England at the height of an Irish Republican Army campaign in 1974. The director of public prosecutions, Allan Green, said that his office “has come to the conclusion that the convictions should not be sustained . . . that they should not have been convicted.”
