Deborah Mayse has been promoted to manager of Design Line Interiors Inc. She will be responsible for all administrative aspects of the firm, as well as personnel and installations.

Mayse, 38, joined Design Line in 1984 as a secretary when the company first opened for business. Previously, she worked with Invironments in Albuquerque, N.M,, and in Colorado at Pamela Johnson Interior Design.

Design Line works exclusively with developers, landscapers and architects from the blueprint stage through completion to coordinate the interior and exterior look for model homes. Its client list includes developers Sunland, Baldwin and Kaufman & Broad.

A large part of Mayse’s job is ensuring that the installation of a design--furniture, wallpaper, accessories--is set up to the designer’s specifications.

For someone who has worked with every aspect of the interior design business, Mayse says she never had any aspirations to be a designer. “I’m not a designer at all, and I don’t presume to be,” she said. “I’ve always stayed in the business end of it.”

Of her work in different regions of the country, Mayse says that there isn’t that much difference between design in San Diego and New Mexico, but Colorado opts for a more traditional look.

“You don’t see much of that traditional look in California,” she said. “We go for a more tropical, contemporary or rustic look.”

In her new position, Mayse says she looks forward to continuing the teamwork that impressed her when she first started with Design Line five years ago.
