Pasadena : Replacement Fees Fixed

Share

As required by the slow-growth policy passed by voters in March, residential developers who demolish affordable housing without replacing it will be required to pay replacement fees.

The fees, from $22,620 to $31,050 based on the number of bedrooms demolished in each housing unit, were approved by the Board of Directors on Tuesday.

A similar fee schedule for commercial developers is being devised by city planning staff. Those fees would be based on the square footage of new buildings.

The money will be placed in an Affordable Housing Replacement Fund, to be lent private developers of affordable housing. Residential and commercial projects evaluated last month under the initiative’s provisions are exempt.

An explanation of the allocation system, the demolition process and future measures on the initiative will be presented at a public hearing at 7 tonight at City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Ave.
