Financial Statements Not Filed, D.A. Says

The district attorney’s office alleged Thursday that the sponsors of last year’s slow-growth initiative, Citizens for Sensible Growth and Traffic Control, failed to file a required financial disclosure statement in July.

Misdemeanor charges were filed against one member of the group, Gregory A. Hile, prosecutors said.

Hile was not available for comment Thursday.

Tom Rogers, the leader of the citizens’ group, said he was surprised by the complaint because the group has not raised any money or been involved in any issues since the initiative failed in June, 1988.

Hile was charged with failure to file a campaign statement. The one in question would be for the period between Dec. 31, 1988, and June 30, 1989.

Three other individuals or groups were charged with the same offense Thursday. They are the Orange County Pharmacists PAC; California Physicians for Logical AIDS Response, and the Veterans Coalition to Elect Victor E. Hobbs.

Prosecutors said the individuals charged are scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 3.
