Oil Tanker Crew Spots Defect in Cargo Hold

VALDEZ, Alaska —
ediate repairs were ordered Thursday on an Exxon oil tanker after a crack was discovered in a cargo hold, officials said.
The 10-inch defect in the center cargo hold of the North Slope was discovered by crew members before the vessel took on any crude oil.
The 906-foot tanker, with a capacity of 46.2 million gallons, was to deliver crude oil to Long Beach.
