From Times wire services

Sixty-two Vietnamese refugees arrived in Singapore after being adrift at sea for 52 days during which they say their crippled boat was deliberately towed away from Malaysian waters, refugee officials said today.

Six of the group died while their boat drifted near Malaysia and Singapore, according to a statement from the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.

The refugees were brought here by the Greek-owned vessel Anezina. Many had to be assisted, and 12 were taken immediately to Singapore General Hospital, where one pregnant woman in her 30s remains in critical condition, it said.
