Washington Post Co.: The newspaper and telecommunications concern posted third-quarter earnings of $44.8 million, a 17% increase over last year. Revenue was $346.3 million, up 5%. The Washington-based company said its net income for the first nine months of 1989 was $146 million, down 37% from the same period of 1988. The decline was attributed to a non-recurring gain of $115.7 million from the 1988 sale of cellular telephone interests; excluding that gain, net income for the first nine months of this year was up 26% over last year.
