A minimum-security inmate who escaped Monday from the Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho in Castaic was arrested less than an hour later after a passer-by noticed him jogging in a shirt labeled “L.A. County Jail,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Jose Jimenez, 20, walked away from the compound shortly after 2 p.m. and was arrested jogging along The Old Road near Hasley Canyon Road about 3 p.m., Lt. Ed Chenal said.
Jimenez was being held on suspicion of escape at the department’s Santa Clarita Valley station, Chenal said. Jimenez had begun serving a 60-day sentence for burglary on Oct. 16, Sgt. Tom Spencer said.
After walking away from the compound, Jimenez tied his green jail T-shirt around his waist and rolled up his pants, apparently so the jail clothing would not be noticed, but the words “L.A. County Jail” were still visible on the T - shirt, Chenal said.
