Man Pleads Not Guilty to Rape of Baby-Sitter

A Glendale man has pleaded not guilty to a charge of raping a 21-year-old woman whom he had hired as a baby-sitter.

The man, Carlos Ramon Rodriguez, 35, remains in custody in lieu of $50,000 bail. A bail reduction hearing is scheduled for today.

Police said Rodriguez was arrested last week after an Inglewood woman reported that she was raped in Rodriguez’s two-bedroom duplex in the 500 block of Riverdale Drive.

The woman told police she was contacted by Rodriguez in response to an advertisement she had placed on a Spanish-language radio station offering her services as a baby-sitter and cleaning woman.

She told police that after Rodriguez raped her, he placed an ad in a Latino newspaper for another baby-sitter before returning the victim to her home.

Glendale police spokesman Dean Durand said investigators are searching for other women who may have responded to Rodriguez’s Oct. 16 ad.
