NATION IN BRIEF : ALABAMA : Bakker ‘Settling In’ at Federal Prison

Jim Bakker, sentenced to prison for fleecing his PTL followers out of millions of dollars, was “in good spirits” as he adjusted to life behind bars, a prison spokesman in Alabama said. “He’s settling in,” said Brian Ross, a spokesman at the Talladega Federal Correctional Institution. Bakker, head bowed and manacled hand and foot, arrived at the medium-security lockup in eastern Alabama under the glare of television lights after a drive from Charlotte, N.C., where he was sentenced to 45 years in prison and fined $500,000.
