Poland’s Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki called for changes in the Soviet-led Warsaw Pact military alliance and the Communist trading bloc Comecon. Mazowiecki, the first non-Communist premier in Eastern Europe in over 40 years, told Warsaw Pact foreign ministers in a banquet speech in Warsaw that the pact has to evolve.
