WORLD IN BRIEF : SOVIET UNION : Military Transport Crashes; 36 Killed

A Soviet military plane carrying missile crews and their families crashed into a mountain while trying to land on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Soviet Asia, killing all 30 passengers and six crew members aboard, the official news agency Tass said. Visibility was reportedly poor at the time. The Antonov-26, two-engine turboprop transport went down 22 miles north of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the main city on the peninsula.
