Unocal Corp.: The Los Angeles energy company reported third-quarter earnings of $79 million, down 19% from the year-ago period. Revenue totaled $2.82 billion, up 8%. The firm said the earnings decline was due principally to lower refining and marketing earnings, higher dry hole expense and increased domestic oil and gas production costs.
