At least five ethnic Albanians were killed during riots in Kosovo province over the trial of the former provincial Communist Party chief, reports from the troubled southern region said. Sources said four were killed in Pristina, the capital, when police dislodged armed men who barricaded themselves inside an apartment house. Police said a fifth man was shot to death when about 1,000 people protested in Pristina. The trouble stems from the trial of Azem Vlasi, the former party chief, who faces a possible death penalty if convicted on charges of counterrevolution.
