Americans Advised to Avoid Visiting Peru

WASHINGTON —
The State Department on Thursday advised Americans to defer travel to Peru until after municipal elections Nov. 12.
“Increased violence by terrorist organizations is expected during the period leading up to the elections,” a State Department travel advisory said.
Maoist Shining Path guerrillas have been attempting to disrupt the elections by a campaign of violence.
