One of five accomplices in a 1988 armed robbery and the murder of an Inglewood police sergeant was sentenced Friday in Torrance Superior Court to 15 years to life in prison.

Patrick Anthony Carr, 21, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in June, then testified in September against two other participants in the bungled robbery of an Inglewood gas station.

Sgt. George Aguilar was shot to death when he came to the aid of a gas station courier, who had picked up the day’s receipts from the station. Police said that gunman Leslie Holget killed himself on the night of the robbery, after he was chased and cornered by police.

Carr, who will be eligible for parole in 7 1/2 years, is the third accomplice to be sentenced for the killing. The alleged mastermind of the robbery, 24-year-old Joevone Elster, was sentenced Tuesday in Torrance Superior Court to 32 years to life for robbery and first-degree murder. A 15-year-old who participated in the holdup was ordered in August to serve 10 years with the California Youth Authority. Van Otis Wilson, 22, will be sentenced Nov. 28 for first-degree murder and robbery.
