A Venerable Visit
About 300 people gathered last week to hear Buddhist leader Hsing Yun lecture at the Hsi Lai Temple in Hacienda Heights. A ceremony welcoming Hsing was held before the lecture. The audience read with Hsing from “The Platform Sutra,” 9th-Century Chinese Buddhist scriptures about a monk’s path to enlightenment, and classes were offered through the weekend. Hsing is the spiritual leader of Fo Kuang Shan, a Taiwanese Buddhist organization. The $15-million Hsi Lai Temple opened last year and is the largest Buddhist monastery and temple complex in the Western Hemisphere.
