Roy Gene Louis; Ex-L.A. City Commissioner, Car Dealer

Roy Gene Louis, a former city commissioner on both the Los Angeles Building and Safety and Art commissions and only the second car dealer in the United States to be granted an exclusive Mercedes-Benz dealership, died Monday at his Huntington Beach home of a heart attack. He was 61.

A former owner of Riverside Raceway, Louis was given a franchise for Mercedes-Benz of Hollywood in 1959 and operated on Sunset Boulevard for six years.

Roy Gene Lewis--An obituary in Thursday’s editions included an incorrect spelling of the surname of Roy Gene Lewis, a former Los Angeles city commissioner who died Monday at the age of 61.

He was appointed to the city commissions during the administration of former Mayor Sam Yorty and served from 1961 to 1968.

His survivors include his wife, Joylee, a son, mother, sister and two brothers.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Peek Family Mortuary in Westminster.
