WORLD IN BRIEF : INDIA : Typhoon Kills 21, 85,000 Left Homeless

Typhoon Gay, packing heavy rains and powerful winds, struck coastal areas of southern Andhra Pradesh state, killing at least 21 people, leaving 85,000 homeless and disrupting transportation and communications, officials said. The typhoon was spawned late last week in the Gulf of Thailand, then swept through parts of southern Thailand and Burma before heading across the Bay of Bengal. A toll of 304 was confirmed in Thailand.
