The death toll from a typhoon that devasted southern Thailand and then swept through southeast India continued to rise in both countries, to 304 in Thailand and 39 in India, officials in both countries said Friday.
Thai Interior Minister Pramarn Adireksan said the final death count would be much higher as more than 500 fishermen were still missing.
Typhoon Gay also damaged 20,000 houses and left more than 100,000 people homeless in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
