Diamond Bar Brows Rise at ‘Lewd’ Show

A popular night club that features bikini-clad dancers and reportedly attracts rowdy crowds Monday nights has raised the eyebrows of city officials.

Citing complaints from several residents, City Council members say they may try to restrict entertainment at the Tree House Sports Lounge. The club, part of a bowling alley complex at 990 N. Diamond Bar Blvd., recently began a live football half-time show, “California Girls,” in which scantily dressed women dance on an elevated stage.

During Tuesday night’s council meeting, a Diamond Bar resident complained about drunks that loiter in the bowling alley parking lot Monday nights, and said the entertainment was inappropriate for the area, a commercial strip surrounded by condominiums and single-family homes.

“Let them go back to Vegas, let them go back to Bourbon Street, I don’t care,” she said.

Councilman Gary Miller, who went to the club last week with Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Luter, said: “The place was packed with men; there were drunks in the parking lot and excessive noise. And lewd conduct, more suggestive than I ever expected.”

Club co-owner Larry Malcolm said the show “was in good taste” but he would cancel it if there was substantial community opposition. A show featuring male dancers, “Muscles in Motion,” was called off after complaints from Mayor Phyllis Papen, Malcolm said.
