Nation IN BRIEF : CONNECTICUT : Governor Dismisses State Police Chief

Gov. William A. O’Neill fired the state police commander Sunday after revelations that the police secretly tape-recorded telephone calls between suspects and their attorneys. The governor said Commander Lester J. Forst had to go “because the people have to be assured that their police department is on their side.” O’Neill named former Hartford Police Chief Bernard R. Sullivan to replace Forst.
