Luther Darville was convicted in Minneapolis of three felony counts of theft by swindle for taking $186,000 from the University of Minnesota and giving some of it to student-athletes.
Darville, who was fired from his post as director of the Office of Minority and Special Students in April of 1988, has said he gave financial aid to between 40 and 50 football and basketball players between 1982 and 1987, as well as to 10 to 20 non-athlete students.
